Hi! My name is Jasmine and I am 14 years old. I am in the 9th grade and I make fairly good grades. In the following link under COUSINS, you will see that I have even been the student of the month.I will be attending Newton High school in the fall. I was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, but I recently moved down to Covington, Georgia. Some of my family has lived in Newton County for about 8-9 years. I was chosen to work for Washington Street Community Center as a Research assistant. I am anxious to learn about different African American ancestors and how they lived back then. Even though I will be working as a Research assistant, I think this will give me a good insight on different heritages and ancestoral pasts. I found some interesting articles, the first one is about an African American woman by the name of Emogene Williams. Read all about her to find some interesting things. Since most of my whole family lives in chicago, I think it will be difficult to search all of my family to find my ancestors. Especially, since some of the oldest member of the family doesnt remember anything!

Today we went to the covington city cemetery and we recorded the tombstones. We also recorded the unmarked tombstones and the ones that had been weathered down. Today I also found a great discovery: on one of the tombstones I found a chain engraved on the tombstone , indicating that the African American was a slave!

Today we have no particular thing to do. But, we are keeping ourselves occupied.
